                                                                        This outer archivolt then has on its outer face
                                                                      a series of female figures now unintelligible as the painted
                                                                        inscriptions on them nearly all gone. They are very graceful, but force
                                                                      									in attitude
                                                                      but the features are ugly & mindless when seen close.

                                                                      The lowest  on the right is contending with a lion who
                                                                         leaps against her: the second has scales
                                                                      		        well expressed
                                                                      The third a lily fleur de lis   ^ crown . & glory (the others
                                                                      having generally only flowing hair). the fourth has two bases the
                                                                      fifth two serpents. the 6th a scroll only the seventh a vine
                                                                      the 8th & 10th sit as supporters to the 9th central. all
                                                                          extending scrolls while the ninth holds . something
                                                                      in a cup or basket in each hand the eleventh 12th 13th
                                                                      15th  - 16th  17th  have either scrolls only or lay their hands on
                                                                            the vine leaves winding round them. the 14th has a vase
                                                                      On the under side of the archivolt cornice the month sculpture
                                                                        of the months - drawn  & daged. (Miss next pages but vide note
                                                                      at p 41.l  and then go on to p 44) and confir p 72,l. below
