                                                                      tween A and B with a regular double tore running round
                                                                      all the members:  the whole carried on a pedestal of the
                                                                      shape fig 1 opposite;  quite regular;  and the outer tore
                                                                      of the circular bases overlaps this base, in the places
                                                                      marked in fig 1  only of course it should do so equally
                                                                       in both the large circles;  The angles of the square
                                                                      pedstal on the fitted with leaves of which fig 2 No 184
                                                                      is plan and fig 3 profile with section of entire base,
                                                                       and larger above fig 4.
                                                                      When however the shaft only carries there face arch, it
                                                                      is thrst further in to carry it more neatly;  and the
                                                                      result is the most singular arrangement fig 2 No 183
                                                                      where the base of the C. shaft is thrust right off
                                                                      the hexagonal semipedestal overlapping it far on one
                                                                      side;  and an odd shaped leaf (fig 5  No 184) put in to
                                                                      fill up on the other:
                                                                      In fig 1 No 183 the letters r s &c refer to same letters
                                                                      in lines of section fig 3 No 184  In fig 2 No 183 u is
                                                                      missed for clearness.
                                                                      In this Lyons base there we have the first entire forma-
                                                                      tion of Gothic;  The deep cavette, the entirely
                                                                      altered construction of tores - all resemblance
                                                                      to this attic base lost sight of and
