[M2.21L] [M2.21] 21 TOMBS Tomb 125. Tomasso Mocenigo. The head emaciated - large featured - grandly and boldly in their fine natural chiselling - dress worn away by case and death - the skin gathered in This tomb high up in north aisle. Merely mentioned in deep folds under the chin - the veins on the temples Venice and lagoons. Selvatico p 147 s. branched and starting: the corner of the lips just veiled by the light moustache at the side, the beard short, double, and sharp pointed - the brow high arched and shaggy - the eyeball magnificently large - All noble and quiet - the white sepulchred dust marking like light the stern angles of the cheek and brow. The figure of the Vestals {on the sarcoph}. cannot be seen below - they are thoroughly classical especially in the armour of the male figures. Gorgons heads etc quite Roman: Draperies wanting in severity but expressions all fine - irises {of eyes} painted; features of noble plan. The quatfoiled or lobed rope with boss in centre used everywhere. Foliation all by shells. Tent drapery modern looking - observe pole in the centre of it. Plinth of Sarcophagus with rude egg moulding and very classical section of red marble, like late Doges Pal. balconies. The leaves of the large brackets below [drawing] have the curled lobes with fruit but are merely ridged, not ribbed. The side crockets treated in same way
