                                                                       - The arches up the nave have the
                                                                      succession opposite. all on this
                                                                      old shafts. and the bases are hidden
                                                                      
                                                                      
                                                                      This church forms with one of its
                                                                      walls the side of the small alley
                                                                      and court described at p 3. Housebook
                                                                      v.2. so this church is also called
                                                                      St Simeon Grande.
                                                                      
                                                                      The tomb - 13th  century. built into alley
                                                                      near is mentioned in Venice and its
                                                                      lagoons. as that of the Martyr [St Ermolaus]
                                                                      of Nicomedia.
                                                                      
                                                                         In the little court behind this
                                                                      church - built into the wall of the
                                                                      Parroco’s house; is a square window
                                                                      formed of a weathered frieze between
                                                                      two ranges of dentils: the wreath
                                                                      taking the almond form, with a figure
                                                                      in each almond - of which a still finer
                                                                      example is built into the fragmentary
                                                                      house at S. M. dell Orto: and then
                                                                      two wreaths are like northern work in
                                                                      their plan: not so flat cut . nor so circular
                                                                      in shape. as the common Romanesque
                                                                      frieze kinds having human figures
                                                                      in deep relief instead of animals.
