In the ornaments of this period the stem springs from rose. or rose from stem indiscriminately The extraordinary peculiarity of this arch - the lower cusp not springing from base of arch but some distance up. and the reversed ogee delicately - but pointedly opposed to the outer arch line; was all most carefully noted on purpose. the trefoil also accurate The shaft above the abacus does not project but fills up the moulding corner . as in dotted line. Within the niche is a Roman vault with a shallow ridge [diagram] along each angle. meeting in a flat rose. Done.
