Notebook M pp.63-4 ‘Window joining door no 40 th mode of junction is seen in No 42, Fig 1 when a portion of the arch is given in true relation to the squares on right hand of door; Fig 2 gives measures of door, height of door way, a-b = a-b = 9 “ 4 width of door way, a - c = 6 “ 4 entire width to outside of dentil on each side, d e 11 “10½ giving 2 “ 9¼ for mere breadth of mouldings. [p.64] These mouldings, considering their great width are remarkable for their want of depth: - they are truly given in No 40. In No 42 A is section below capital, B above capital C. of capital itself. of the window No 40 all the rolls being cabled. Note the larger cavetto and bevels at its side in the upper section and the singular oblique out of the way look of both, from the line x y not being parallel with wall. Note a b produced would be the wall line: it corresponds with c d above; d2 is of course the double dentil of the door.’
