Bound in orange / blue marbled boards, 7 1/2 x 4 3/4 (19.2 x 12.2 cm). St M Book consists of 204 pages. Creamy yellow endpapers, with recto pages marked by Ruskin 1 -102 on pale green lined paper. Many pages are written across in the landscape position rather than following the printed lines. Ruskin also numbered St M Book from the rear by turning it upside down with pages marked 1w to 12 w. There is no page 65, rather 65a and 65b. Page 90L has been partly cut out for use as preparation for a mezzotint (see Notebook M p.204L). The leaf following page 85 has also been torn out but was never allocated a number by Ruskin. Possibly begun in February 1850. (Hewison (1978) p.60) Sold at Sothebys 24th July 1930 Lot 115 No 4.
