Ruskin’s transcription next to this represents USQE AD MORTEM with signs of contraction. It is followed in brackets by Ruskin’s interpretation of the marks, i.e. usque ad mortem, and then an explanation of the marks of contraction which determine the reading of UQ as usque and MOTE as mortem. So the whole becomes DECREPITE DNT STN UQ AD MOTE. Saturn governs old age until death.
