These two drawings titled ‘At Vittaux’ (now spelled Vitteaux) must be a later insertion into the notebook. At Notebook M2 p.1back which Ruskin heads ‘Dijon 6th Oct’ he indicates that it was the day he saw the window at Vittaux. The Amiens work in the N notebook appears both before and after this entry on Vittaux at page 9L. If it was done on the ‘6th Oct’ this Vittaux entry must therefore have been added into the notebook later. Ruskin’s diary shows that he was at Amiens on 14th September 1849 on his return journey with his parents. He visited Venice later in the same year. See Evans & Whitehouse (1956-9) 11, p. 439.
