St Ambrozio

Note: ‘Ambrogio’ The Italian form used by all the English writers of the time. It is possible that at Notebook N p.30 Ruskin wrote ‘Ambrosio’ as half English ‘Ambrose’ and half Italian. It is possible that he sometimes wrote ‘Ambrozio’ as another version of ‘Ambrosio’ However, since ‘g’ and ‘z’ are difficult to distinguish in Ruskin’s writing it is probably better to assume that he wrote ‘Ambrogio’.
