Willis’s point, Willis (1835) pp.122 and 123, appears to be that the porches of Italian churches are ‘derived from the antique portico’, and so ‘Christian Roman’ or ‘Lombard’ in style. That seems an accurate enough description of the porch at Monza. See Notebook M p.17 and the comment there on Notebook N p.42L. Ruskin seems to read Willis as meaning that no churches in Italy built in the Gothic style have porches.
