Ruskin is so unwilling to follow Lindsay, who with some justification sees Santa Fosca as Byzantine in form, that characteristics which are elsewhere seen by Ruskin as markers of Byzantine style are not accepted as evidence in relation to Santa Fosca. Ruskin gives no reasons for his conclusions and it is difficult to see what those reasons might be. See note at Notebook M p.78.
