The Ruskin Library Transcript T7A reads ‘interposed’, but it is difficult to see what that might mean.
‘untapered’ seems a better reading of the manuscript and appropriate as a characterisation of the ‘rude shafts’ of the Frari. Compare the comment on Notebook M p.37, where the same point is made about tapering. See also Notebook M2 p.15back for Ruskin’s account of the principles underlying his judgment.
