‘Tore’ is a form of ‘torus’, ‘toro’ in Palladio, derived from Latin ‘torus’ meaning ‘swelling’ and thus ‘cushion’. It is a convex moulding used as an element of the base in classical orders.
‘tare’ in the Ruskin Library Transcript T7A at Notebook M p.29L is a transcription error for tore.
