Titus Vespasian: [diagram] for imperator

In the transcript the drawing is given as IPAT and ‘for’ is read as ‘per’, presumably on the basis that it was a Latin word and part of the inscription, rather than an explanation of the drawing of the inscription. The drawing is reproduced at Works, 10.389 to illustrate the appearance of the evidence from which Ruskin was working. The reference is to the emperor Vespasian.
