The separate pages on St Mark’s kept at the beginning of M organise the observations of the basic plinth as follows:
‘Basic plinth 189’ [Notebook M p.189] ‘190’ [Notebook M p.190] ‘continued 196’ [Notebook M p.196], ‘197’ [Notebook M p.197], ‘198 1’ [i.e. the first section of Notebook M p.198, marked ‘1’ in the margin, NOT Notebook M p.198L].
‘1st step to 190’ [presumably meaning Notebook M pp.189-190].
‘second step at 190’ [presumably meaning starting at Notebook M p.190] ‘continued in 1 of 198’ [i.e. the first section of Notebook M p.198, marked ‘1’ in the margin].
Notebook M p.189 refers to Door Book p.44L and Sheet No. 128;
Notebook M p.196 refers to Sheet No. 129 and Sheet No. 133;
Notebook M p.197 refers to Notebook M p.205; Sheet No. 133; Sheet No. 134; Sheet No. 170.
On the measurements of the basic plinth see also the second of the two letters of this period from Ruskin to Rawdon Brown.
