Spem habe in (Domino) D N O

At Palace Book p.42L Ruskin reads ‘SPEM HABE IN DNO’. ‘DNO’ is explained at Notebook M p.185 as the contracted form of ‘DOMINO’, ‘in the Lord’. How he understood this is less clear. ‘Habe’ in Classical Latin would be an imperative, ‘have hope in the Lord’. Perhaps though HABE represents what would be HABEO in Classical Latin, so ‘I have hope in the Lord’ and this would be analogous in grammatical structure with the other figures on this capital.
