  Woods’ views on Palladio and Vicenza were drawn on by the 1847 edition of Murray’s Guide (Murray (1847b)): for both the main reason to visit Vicenza is to study the work of Palladio. Ruskin simply ignores Palladio, and stresses the Gothic, including the Casa Pigafetta at Notebook N p.61L.
  There is a chronological problem with the notes on Vicenza, and so some uncertainty about the extent to which the notes were made from memory. Vicenza is slightly less than half way along the road from Padua to Verona. There are references to building in Padua before and after the references to Vicenza in both M2 and Notebook N. There are also references to Verona before and after references to a building seen in Vicenza ‘today’.
