The word transcribed as ‘fronts’ is unclear in the manuscript. The form ‘maybe’ is an accurate representation of the manuscript, but perhaps Ruskin’s meaning would be better understood as ‘may be’, i.e. although this curve is never used there ‘may be’ some intermediate curves which are used.
