Palazzo publico at Como and Milan

The manuscript probably reads ‘publico’ rather than ‘publica’, the reading of the Ruskin Library Transcript T7A. The arch masonry of the Broletto or old town hall of Como is illustrated in Plate 5 facing Works, 9.254, and this illustration provides the focus for most of the other references: at Works, 9.394; on the cornice at Works, 9.98 (which is concerned with the figure at Works, 9.97 rather than Plate 5); on the tied shafts at Works, 9.131; Works, 9.174; concave chamfers at Works, 9.313. The lower stories of the Palazzo della Ragione, via Mercanti, Milan, are dated to 1228-33, and as described by Ruskin.
