The Ruskin Library Transcript T7A reads ‘fixed’ but ‘faced’ seems a better reading of the manuscript. The sense then would be that the stilt of the brick arch is faced with carved slabs of alabaster on the soffit, and faced with plain slabs of alabaster on the stilt.
