A word, perhaps ‘not’ has been struck through, after ‘an’. It looks as if the ‘n’ on ‘an’ is a later addition. Ruskin had perhaps written ‘to a not’ before he decided on the word ‘inconceivable’ struck out the ‘not’ and changed ‘a’ to ‘an’.
