‘wet’' is the reading of The Ruskin Library Transcript T7B. The manuscript is unclear, but ‘wet’ seems implausible. There is a version of the passage on Notebook M2 p.79, to which this note at Notebook M p.79L refers, at Works, 9.471. It ends at ‘utterly useless’.
