Here as elsewhere the Ruskin Library Transcript T7B has been changed only when it appears to misrepresent Ruskin’s manuscript version in M2. The Ruskin Library Transcript T7B reads ‘vetu de velours tanne’. The 1836 edition of the Monstre reads ‘vestu de veloux tanné.’ Ruskin’s manuscript can plausibly be read with the word ‘veloux’, but ‘vetu’, and ‘tanne’ without the accent, both seem clear in the manuscript so neither has been changed. Similarly ‘espèces de bestes’ in the published text clearly reads ‘especes de betes’ in the manuscript, and so has been left unchanged.
