It appears that Ruskin first wrote ‘This question’ but then struck through the word ‘question’, added in its place the word ‘propriety’, and altered ‘This’ to ‘The’. ‘property’ is the reading of the Ruskin Library Transcript T7B: ‘propriety’ seems closer to the manuscript, and to make better sense.
