At Notebook M2 p.33 Ruskin quotes Zanotto (1847) p.422 suggesting that Zanotto attributed the Ca d’Oro to Calendario, the architect of the Ducal Palace. Zanotto’s point, like Ruskin’s at Notebook M p.42, seems to be that it is in the style ‘dell’autore del Palazzo Ducale’, that is, in his view, of Calendario . Zanotto, whose views on restoration were not the same as Ruskin’s, suggested that later restorations had restored it ‘alla prima sua integrità’.
