porch

‘part’ is the reading of The Ruskin Library Transcript T7B and clearly wrong; the word looks like ‘pach’ but ‘porch’ seems possible though the first letter is slightly different from the ‘p’ of ‘porch’ in the next line, and that seems certain. The porch was, and is, remarkable for the classical forms of its pediment and Corinthian order. Murray (1847a) p.454 commented that it is so ‘completely Roman in character that some have supposed it to have formed the porch of a Roman building’.
