‘1’ is the numeral; it appears as ‘I’ in The Ruskin Library Transcript T7B. The first number as originally written was struck out, and the ‘3’ inserted. The numbers have no relevance as references to Sansovino (1663), and are perhaps indications by Ruskin of the sequence he intended to follow in using the information.
