See the marginal note at Notebook M2 p.20back pointing the exception from the law defined there for unsymmetric capitals. ‘w. opp. does not fit Ruskin’s normal use of ‘w’ to refer to the page in landscape orientation. Perhaps it reads ‘as opp’, ‘as opposite’.
