See the reference to nationality at Works, 1.5 [n/a] where architecture shows ‘the prevailing turn of mind by which the nation who first employed it is distinguished’, and compare Works, 24.203 on art as the biography of a nation. Presumably the complaint is that Palladianism is international. It is odd that Ruskin regularly lumps together architects as different as Palladio and Sansovino.
