The last three words were omitted by Ruskin in the published version at Works, 9.433, though attention is drawn to them in a footnote. In the footnote ‘lord’ is given a capital letter which is not justified by the manuscript. Lord Brougham (1178 - 1868), born and educated in Edinburgh, had been Lord Chancellor from 1830 to 1834.
