The date of 1365 for the Paradise ‘in testa della sala’ is given by Sansovino (1663) p325. The original Paradise for the great council chamber of the Ducal Palace is attributed by Sansovino to Guariento.
For Ruskin’s view of his ‘severe and religious’ work and the contrast with the ‘wildness of Tintoret and the luxury of Veronese’ see Works, 10.434. The frescoes in the Eremitani to which Ruskin refers were largely destroyed by bombing in 1944.
