The crossing out of ‘named’ and the need for two rows of numbers are the result of Ruskin’s decision to adopt here a numbering system starting from the Porta della Carta rather than his usual practice, and Selvatico’s usual practice, of starting from Ponte della Paglia in order to put the earliest capitals first. ‘called usually’ refers to Ruskin’s normal practice.
