Bons

‘Bones’ is the reading of The Ruskin Library Transcript T7B. Giovanni and Bartolomeo Bon ran a successful stonemason's business in Venice. They worked on the contract for the Ca d’Oro, though the evidence for that was not available to Ruskin. They were commissioned to build the Porta della Carta in 1438, and ‘Bonism’ and cognate terms are frequently used by Ruskin in the notebooks. They are to be distinguished from the later father and son (probably) Bartolomeo and Pietro Bon, whose work included the Procuratie Vecchie, begun 1513, and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, begun 1515.
