‘a la Diane’ is an insertion; ‘Diane’ is not clear. Ruskin does elsewhere refer to Diane Domecq - Mme de Maison - Adèle Domecq’s sister, but it is not clear that he could have had her in mind in this passage referring to round thighs, even in a private diary. Perhaps the reference is to the painter Benedetto Rusconi, known as Diana, who died in Venice 1525.
