Proverbs Chapter 17 Verse 9 in the King James Version reads: “He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.” Ruskin’s gloss on ‘seeketh’ is ‘procureth’ and bracketed. It is perhaps intended to stress the success in obtaining love, rather than the search for it. The Ruskin Library Transcript T7B reads ‘separateth’ for ‘repeateth’ with no justification from the manuscript.
