Task C - Our answer

In S 14 the list is a list of adjectives (some of them participial adjectives, derived from verbs). In S 47 the list is a list of verbs, and in S 48 it is a list of (negated) NPs. In each case the pragmatic effect is roughly the same. The items in each list are either alternatives to one another or describe minutely different aspects of the same overall behaviour. They thus capture the idea that the candidate is trying to conceptualise exactly what she sees in front of her. We see a mind trying to come to terms with new, and unexpected, experiences.
