Between 1824 and 1827 Dickens was a day pupil at a school in London. |
Career: |
At the age of fifteen, he found employment as an office boy at an attorney's, while he studied shorthand at night. In 1829 he became a free-lance reporter at Doctor's Common Courts. By 1832 he had become a very successful shorthand reporter of Parliamentary debates in the House of Common, and began work as a reporter for a newspaper. In 1834 he adopted the soon to be famous pseudonym Boz. In 1836 Dickens became the editor of Bentley's Miscellany. The Pickwick Papers became a success in 1837 and after that Dickens embarked on a full-time carrier as a novelist. |
Final years: |
1861 found Dickens a series of public readings in London. In 1863 he did public readings both in Paris and London. In 1865 he did his health was badly shaken when experienced an accident while returning from Paris on the train. His health was worsening and in 1869, he collapsed with a mild stroke. |
