Summary
Aimhigher Lancashire hosted its third National Families conference entitled
'Connect 5' at Lancaster University on the 26th September 2007. The programme
consisted of keynote speakers and workshops. Our keynote speakers outlined:
- Aimhigher Lancashire's 'working with family' achievements
- national Aimhigher policy with respect to working with families
- strategic links with the Every Child Matters Agenda
- other policy links for family learning including 14-19 Agenda
Our programme of workshops explored a range of practical issues and showcased
examples of good practice covering work with families:
- about finance
- to engage hard to reach families in a school setting
- within a HE setting
- supporting disabled learners and their families
- who are accessed by collaborating with the community and voluntary
sector

Keynote speakers
Penny Lamb, NIACE
Connect-Five: Making strategic Links
Penny is the Family Learning Development Officer for NIACE, working nationally
to promote adult learning. NIACE
is the national, independent organisation for adult learning in England
and Wales. As a registered charity, NIACE both represents and advances
the interests of all adult learners and potential learners-especially
those who have benefited least from education and training
Tricia Hartley, Campaign for Learning
Connect Five More!
Tricia is the Joint Chief Executive for Campaign
for Learning. Tricia focused on five key current national policy issues
and their impact on young people and families. The five current policy
developments focused upon are:
- Children’s well-being
- Role of Local authorities
- Extended Schools
- Parental involvement
- Reform of 14-19 phase of learning
