In the Spence MS (fol. 31r), Fox says ‘after this I went Into Dent’. David and Anthea Boulton

suggest that he went up Stake Road to Semerwater and Countersett, then down the Roman road, Cam High Road, turning
north at Gearstones to join the drove road leading to the head of Dentdale:

Dales journeys is however difficult to disentangle. It is not clear whether Fox means ‘after my visit to Scar House’,
or ‘after my travels through the Dales’.
