Halton Church across the River Lune, evening

Fox refers to Halton as a ‘steeplehouse by ye waters syde’, which is not usually how one thinks of Halton church; but this image explains it.
Halton was a full parish church, its minister Thomas Whitehead, MA. In the churchyard is the famous Anglo-Saxon Halton Cross.
