That was one of the things that hurt, is that they don’t really care do they? You know, they sort of all came up and trudged around and, you know. He got his election in the end, and as far as he was concerned… well that’s they way it seemed anyway, you know, that was it. I don’t know, they never really got it, the effect it was having.

Well I was really suffering. I was on to every Government Body, ‘Business Link’, everyone, saying, “right this can’t be any help”, Tourist Board, “what’s going on, come on help me.” Everyone pointed out from the start; there will be no compensation for tourism. You know, the Government, you know, Nick Brown, blatantly come out and said, “we are not going to have any compensation for tourism, it’s only for agriculture.” And that’s what really annoyed me. Why does one industry, a subsidised, useless, non money making industry anyway you know, get all this compensation, and an effective one, that peoples’ livelihood and job depends on, doesn’t. It was the inconsistencies, that"s what really annoyed me.

[R] They say they weren’t burning anything round here but I know definitely they were burning.
[K] The woman from Wiggonby who I sat next to at the meeting, she was saying they had five or six pyres and that, but we were told here that they weren’t burning, you know. . .
[R] . . . we were sure they were burning all the time. . .
[K] . . . but you were sure you could smell it, but then they were saying we’re not burning, we promise, you know.
