Preparing for Cambridge exams
Gordon Dobson

This session will take a very hands-on look at how to prepare for the examinations offered by Cambridge English for Speakers of Other Languages (Cambridge ESOL).
The aim is to introduce the examinations to stakeholders, including potential student and candidate end-users, teachers and trainers, department and school heads, academic managers, employers and other interested parties.
The presentation-cum-workshop will be divided into two parts. The first part will be devoted to providing background to the examinations while the second part will give participants the opportunity to become more familiar with the examination tasks and view some of the material and activities available for use in the classroom.
Practical examples taken from papers (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, and, where appropriate, Use of English) will be used throughout with special emphasis placed on familiarising participants with the content knowledge and language skill areas needed for candidates to be successful at the examination. Participants will be able to try out a number of the tasks for themselves and will be given accompanying materials for them to use in their own classrooms.
