The INTO EUROPE series in in-service teacher training
Györgyi Együd
With the appearance of modern European language examinations quality control has become an important issue in language education in Hungary. This has resulted in an increased interest in the training of examiners. The Examinations Reform Teacher Support Project of the British Council Hungary has devised, piloted and run a suit of five courses to prepare teachers for the demands of modern language examinations and quality classroom testing. The courses present principles and good practice in assessment with the help of the Into Europe series. This presentation will demonstrate how the four volumes of the series can help teachers in the framework of in-service training courses
* understand the principles of modern language testing;
* learn about testing techniques to be used in the language classroom and in language examinations;
* learn how language skills can be tested and what task types are suitable;
* develop skills of conducting oral exams and assessing speaking and writing performances that can be used in the preparation of students for modern English examinations, including the new Hungarian school-leaving examination.
