Disabled people's health care encountersRuth Bailey, University of Edinburgh AbstractThis paper will discuss some of the preliminary findings of research in to disabled people's experiences of healthcare encounters. Using qualitative, in-depth interviews, the research aimed to consider what types and levels of support disabled people want from the NHS, as well as exploring how impairment and disability influenced healthcare encounters. The paper will consider what the findings can contribute to current debates about understanding and theorizing disability and their implications for NHS policy, particularly its new DDA responsibility to promote disability equality and prevent discrimination. |
