Internal capsule

White matter located between the basal ganglia and the thalamus and through which the lateral and medial bundles of the corticospinal tracts descend to the spinal cord (see figure below for further details). 

 Fibers from the motor cortex join fibers from other areas of the cortex (viz., the corona radiate) to form a bundle of white fibers (internal capsule) running between the internal segment of the globus pallidus and the thalamus.
