Ventral

From the Latin word  for ‘appertaining to the belly’, it means situated to the same part of the body as the  belly (i.e., the frontal part of the body in bipeds and the underside of the body in quadrupeds).  In the human forebrain, however, it is used to mean inferior or bottom.  Like caudal, dorsal and rostral, it used as a directional term in anatomy and physiology.  Sometimes called adaxial.
