Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)

Used to assess autistic symptoms and diagnose autism, as well as other pervasive developmental disorders.  It consists of four modules administered in a series of semi-structured tasks involving social interaction between examiner and subject, and designed to be appropriate for differing developmental and language levels.  It has been validated forindividuals from early childhood to adulthood.y.  It was originally devised by Catherine Lord and colleagues.  An associated instrument is the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADL-R) that is carried out with the parents of the referred individual taking account of his or her complete developmental history.
