Respiration occurring in the presence of oxygen. It ensures that foodstuffs, usually carbohydrates, are completely oxidised to carbon dioxide and water, with the release of chemical energy. Most organisms use aerobic respiration, except bacteria and yeasts. It is contrasted with anaerobic respiration.
