Testosterone

Often defined as a ‚aamale‚aa sex (androgen) anabolic steroid hormone, because it is manufactured in large quantity by the Leydig cells of the testes. It is also produced by the ovaries as it is required for the production of oestrogen, and in smaller quantities by the cortex of the adrenal gland. Thus, testosterone is present in females and males soon after conception, but at higher levels in males during fatal life and from pre-adolescence onward.
